Blog #9

One topic that we have talked about in class was the importance of Sound in nature and can help give us an aesthetic appreciation. Reading through the handout on this made me ponder how important sound is around us when it can either entail walking through the woods listening to the birds and insects or simply just walking into Thomas More listening to the birds around as well day to day sounds around the campus. Sounds create moving and at times emotional responses depending on the person which create as well aesthetic experiences. As a runner I can testify to this because running in the woods or on a trail for example can stimulate many aesthetic experiences for me because of all the things I can hear and listen to. To me, this form of aesthetic appreciation stuck out to me the most out of all the previous forms of appreciation we talked about.

  1. After listening to your presentation, I took it upon myself to go on a run without the use of headphones. As you stated, it is such a different experience, where you can truly appreciate your surrounding nature without being isolated by the music in your ears.
