“There is no Sleepy Hollow on the Internet, no peaceful spot where contemplativeness can work its restorative magic. There is only the endless, mesmerizing buzz of the urban street.” Nicholas Carr, from The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains (New York: Norton, 2010)

Blog Post 5
This past winter was one to truly remember with the cold weather and amount of snow we received. What I find so fascinating about snow is the how different it can be to the human eye. To me, when winter begins and we encounter our first snow fall we absolutely love it. To us there is nothing more aesthetically pleasing than seeing our hometowns and cities covered by snow. The initial snow fall is great, it truly paints a picture for what winter time and Christmas atmosphere should truly be like. As great as snow can be is also how miserable snow can be at times. After that initial snow fall, we see the snow plow trucks driving up and down clearing the streets. After the streets are cleared we notice how the snow doesn't look the same anymore. Unfortunately as it starts to get cleaned and melts day by day it doesn't have the same appeal that it once did when it first snowed. Its pretty interesting how one thing can be so aesthetically beautiful one day and then the next day all we want is to see it go away for the winter.
