The aesthetics of shopping malls

On our visit to Missoula, Montana, my mom and I decided to the bus to the local mall.  Below is our view of the surroundings from the outside of the mall.  Looking at the mall may not be considered "aesthetically pleasing" but the view looking out definitely could be.  Carlson would evaluate this as beautiful because the mall does not interrupt the landscape of the area (though maybe not if his new book indicates otherwise).  It is situated in a  place where nature can still be appreciated.  Foltz and sympathizers with the aesthetics of engagement would agree that this is also beautiful because you can easily transition from "everyday life" into nature.  You don't have to drive 30 minutes to a nature center.  The mountains and nature preserves are within walking or biking distance from all parts of the city, even the mall.
