“There is no Sleepy Hollow on the Internet, no peaceful spot where contemplativeness can work its restorative magic. There is only the endless, mesmerizing buzz of the urban street.” Nicholas Carr, from The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains (New York: Norton, 2010)

Welcome to Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow is our class blog. It is an online journal on which you will post your reflections about places, whether in “nature” or closer to home, that have an impact on you. One of the main goals of this course is to heighten our awareness and thoughtfulness concerning the places in which we live and the natural environment. What I would like you to do on the blog is to apply the ideas about place discussed in the course material to the actual places we inhabit. You are encouraged, but not required, to add photographs to your blog posts so that other blog readers can get some sense of the places you are describing and thinking about. You should also read and make comments on the posts of other blog participants.
